Lindsay United MC is part of the United Methodist Church denomination. Our beliefs and religious practices are founded upon the teachings and theology of John Wesley who along with his brother Charles started the Methodist movement and founded the Methodist Episcopal Church in the US in 1784. Our denominal beliefs and practices.
6.A “The Holy Bible - We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired word of God, given to humanity that we might come to know God and discover his ultimate will for each of us. The Bible is the primary authority for our faith and our practices. John Wesley acknowledges that “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” [2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV)
6.B “God - We believe in One God, the maker of heaven and earth, in whom we place our trust and hope; and in whom we worship. We join with millions of Christians around the world today and through the ages in understanding God as a triune God – revealed as three persons in one: Father / Creator, Son / Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
6.C “Jesus – We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. We believe that God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and His life, death, and resurrection demonstrates Gods redeeming love offered freely to all who will receive it.”
6.D “The Holy Spirit – We believe the Holy Spirit is a continuous gift from God. As we accept Jesus Christ into our hearts and lives, we become God’s temple [1 Corinth 6:19] allowing the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, being an engaging presence that will guide us, lead us and empower us so that we may live a Spirit Filled life. When we sense God’s leading, God’s challenge, or God’s support /comfort, we realize such as the Holy Spirit at work, serving as the divine agent for our salvation.
6.E Created in God’s Image: We believe God created each human being out of his own image [Genesis 1:27], giving us the capacity to love and care, to communicate, to explore and to learn. We believe that God enjoys an infinite variety and thus we were created with different colors, sizes and capabilities.
6.F Sin: We believe that sin is real and represents our violation of God’s love. Because of our sinful nature and recognizing that we are often blind to it. We therefore acknowledge our sinfulness, repent and seek God’s forgiveness. In doing so, we receive God’s Redeeming Grace.
The Church: The Church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today modeled after the early Christian gatherings as described in Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” The Church is any place where followers of Jesus Christ gather together, to (a) engage in intentional faith development, (b) extend radical hospitality to all people (c) experience in passionate worship, (d) pursue risk-taking mission and service to others and (e) participate in extravagant generosity [Bishop Robert Schnase]. The purpose of the Church is to facilitate human connection with God and neighbor as we live out the mission of God.
6.H Baptism: We believe that through Baptism, we are joined with the Church and with Christians everywhere. Baptism is an outward symbol of the new life God is creating within us. Because God’s work within us never ends, we Baptize only once. Baptism is offered to any person of any age. We Baptize by sprinkling, immersion, our pouring. If you are interested in becoming Baptized, please contact the Pastor.
6.I Communion: The Lord’s Supper is a holy meal of bread and wine that symbolizes the body and blood of Christ. It recalls the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and celebrates the unity of all members of God’s family. By sharing this meal, we give thanks for Christ’s sacrifice and are nourished and empowered to go into the world in mission and ministry. Communion is served every worship service and to all who worship with us.
