KAIROS MINSTRY TEAM: Senior Adults

KAIROS MINISTRY TEAM: Ministry with and for Senior Adults

'Kairos' is the Greek term for 'God's Time' which relates to the spiritual dimension of life and eternity.  'Chronos'  is the Greek term for 'clock time' which frames our days and hours on this planet as we revolve around the Sun.  Kairos points to 'a significant moment of time', moments 'in which something unique can happen or be accomplished'.  For the biblical writers in the New Testament Kairos meant 'fulfilled time', a time when all components and circumstances of life present the 'right time' for a meaningful event, opportunity and/or action that God chooses.  Kairos is this concept of time that St. Paul used in:

GALATIANS 6: 9-10: "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."

THE KAIROS MINISTRY TEAM uses the "DAYLIGHT-SAVINGS TIME CHANGES" (APRIL -Spring Forward and OCTOBER- Fall Back) as the 'KAIROS TIME' to assist our senior adult members.

THE KAIROS MINISTRY TEAM is composed of our Lindsay United Methodist Men and our Lindsay United Methodist Youth, under coordination of our Senior Adult Minmistry Team, who assist our senior members (60+ years) of Lindsday United Methodist Church with changing/adding of all depleted light bulbs, smoke alarm batteries, other remote batteries and minor home repairs, etc. that may assist our senior members.  Our Senior Adult Ministry Team gathers information throughout the year from our senior adults to assist them during the DAYLIGHT-SAVINGS TIME CHANGES and provides this important service and assistance in their homes.

In 2004 the Oklahoma Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church recognized 'The KAIROS MINISTRY TEAM' as one of the new significant and outstanding laity initiated ministries of our Conference.  "Celebrate the Laity" of our Annual Conference awarded Lindsay United Methodist Church the Ardmore District Laity Ministry award for 'The Kairos Ministry Team' ministry.  In 2006 the national United Methodist Church magazine, "TOGETHER", featured the Lindsay United Methodist Church KAIROS MINISTRY TEAM in their local church ministry section entitled, "IT WORKED FOR US!
